Sang-Yoon Chang



Welcome to my page. I am an Associate Professor at the Computer Science (CS) Department at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). My main research interest is in security of networked systems. At UCCS, I teach: Intro to Computer Security (CS 4910), Applied Cryptography (CS 4920/5920), and Wireless and Embedded Systems Security (CS 5960), and Computational Linear Algebra (CS 2300). In addition to the courses at UCCS, I offer MOOC courses in Applied Cryptography at Coursera. I am also the PI and the Director of the CyberCorps Scholarship for Service (SFS) program at UCCS, the Colorado-Washington Security Scholars Program (CWSSP).

I received my PhD and Bachelor's degrees from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2013 and 2007, respectively. . Before joining UCCS CS, I was a postdoctoral fellow at Advanced Digital Sciences Center (ADSC), a UIUC research center at Singapore.

  • It has been a couple years. I look forward to the in-person conference travels in 2022, including IEEE ICC in Seoul, IFIP Sec in Copenhagen, IEEE ICDCS in Bologna, and UKC in Arlington, VA. Let me know if you plan to attend any of these conferences!

  • My PhD student, Simeon Wuthier, got offered and accepted the O'Neil GRA position for AY 22-23 (one of the two positions at UCCS EAS College). Congrats, Simeon!

  • Dr. Wenjun Fan, a postdoctoral researcher working in my lab, joined Xi'an Jiatong-Liverpool University starting from Fall 2021.
