Sang-Yoon Chang



Welcome to my page. I am an Associate Professor at the Computer Science (CS) Department at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). My main research interest is in security of networked systems. At UCCS, I teach: Intro to Computer Security (CS 4910), Applied Cryptography (CS 4920/5920), and Wireless and Embedded Systems Security (CS 5960), and Computational Linear Algebra (CS 2300). In addition to the courses at UCCS, I offer MOOC courses in Applied Cryptography at Coursera. I am also the PI and the Director of the CyberCorps Scholarship for Service (SFS) program at UCCS, the Colorado-Washington Security Scholars Program (CWSSP).

I received my PhD and Bachelor's degrees from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2013 and 2007, respectively. . Before joining UCCS CS, I was a postdoctoral fellow at Advanced Digital Sciences Center (ADSC), a UIUC research center at Singapore.

  • Dr. Hsiang-Jen Hong who conducted his postdoctoral research in my lab joins Western Washington University as a tenure-track assistant professor starting from Fall 2023. Congratulations, Hsiang-Jen!

  • We received the Best Demo Award at IEEE CCNC 2023. Congratulations, Arijet and Simeon! CCNC'23 webpage Home tab also has a picture of Arijet and me receiving the award from the CCNC Conference Organizers on their dynamic webpage banner.

  • I participated in the panel discussion as an invited panelist at Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF 2022) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We discussed about post-quantum cryptography and the transition to it. Our panel "Post Quantum Cryptography" starts at 2:31:33 in Youtube video.

  • My PhD student, Simeon Wuthier, got offered and accepted the O'Neil GRA position for AY 22-23 (one of the two positions at UCCS EAS College). Congrats, Simeon!

  • Dr. Wenjun Fan, a postdoctoral researcher working in my lab, joined Xi'an Jiatong-Liverpool University starting from Fall 2021.
